Went to see the Veronese at the National - good and even better that it was quiet so actually got to see things! Then off for a quick scoot through the Bailey exhibition and then on to hear the great man himself - looked like Great Uncle Bulgaria. He was good fun - he teased Tom Marlow a great deal, especially around tit painting which was initially ascribed to Bridget Riley (!) but finally decided that it was probably Bridget Polk.

He came up with a couple of comments worth recording

  • Too many people have common sense - what we need is uncommon sense
  • The '50s were grey, the '60s were black and white and the '70s were gaudy colour
